Dalgado Konknni Akademi to celebrate Konkani Journalism Day

In the history of Konkani, the original events that took place in the development of the language were in Roman script of Konkani, one of which is in the field of journalism. On February 2, 1889, history was created when the first Konkani periodical in Roman script ‘Udentichem Sallok’ was published in Pune. Eduardo Jose Bruno de Souza was the pioneer of the newspaper. Determined to preserve the history of the Konkani language, Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) commemorate this day as Journalism Day. This year too, DKA is organizing a special function at Reginald Fernandes conference hall, Panaji on February 2, 2018, at 4.30 p.m. This publication gave birth to many Konkani writers and a new language to the world. Even though the periodical was closed within a few years of its existence, this initiative gave birth to several other periodicals and writers in Konkani. Among the oldest newspapers that stand tall until today are Vavraddeancho Ixtt and Dhor Mhoineachi Rotti.

On this occasion, Dalgado Konknni Akademi will felicitate Fr Jose Dias, one of the prominent writers in Konkani. Fr Dias is a thought-provoking writer. Studying in depth the social issues relating to the Goan society, one can read his writings in several Konkani periodicals. Fr Dias, a quiet personality, has abundant knowledge of journalism. Currently, he is the parish priest of Our Lady of Piety church at Divar. Konkani lovers are hereby invited to celebrate this important event together.
