11th Goa Marathi Film festival gets rolling with the World Premier of ‘Welcome Home’

Actress Priya Bapat was awarded the Godrej Fresh Face of the Year Award. Prior to the premiere of the Marathi film 'Welcome Home', directed by the national award-winning duo Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukhtankar, Prasad and Radhika Phanase along with their team paid a musical tribute to Indian singer, Lata Mangeshkar. The closing film of the festival 'Savita Damodar Paranjape' directed by Swapna Waghmare Joshi will be screened on Sunday, June 10 at Kala Academy.

The 11th Goa Marathi Film Festival was inaugurated on Friday at Kala Academy. The festival organized by Vinsan World will screen films till Sunday, June 10 at Kala Academy, Maquinez Palace, and Inox in Panaji and 1930 in Vasco. At the inaugural function personalities who have contributed to Marathi cinema were felicitated. The function was attended by several film personalities.

Goa's nightingale, Lorna Cordeiro was felicitated with the Krutadnyata Puraskar following which she rendered a musical performance to enthrall the audience. Speaking at the function Governor of Goa, Mridula Sinha said that Goa has produced many talented personalities. "Today, three generations are sharing a common stage. When three generations move together, all climb the steps of development. There are many artists in Goa who are talented and have contributed for the betterment of various fields," she said. Also present for the function were Minister of Art and Culture, Govind Gaude and Indian film director and writer, Madhur Bhandarkar.
