Goan Fish Curry Rice ~ Chef Rego

Ingredients:

 800 grams fish steaks (pomfret or any other fish)

 200 grams fresh grated coconut

 8 dried red chillies

 1 tablespoon whole coriander seeds

 6 garlic cloves

 ½ inch ginger

 1 teaspoon peppercorns

 ½ teaspoon cumin seeds

 1 teaspoon ground turmeric

 1 small onion (sliced)

 4 green chillies (slit)

 5 wedges kokum

 1 tablespoon tamarind pulp

 Salt to taste

 

Method:

  1. Rub salt on the fish and keep aside for at least 3 hours.
  2. Make a fine, smooth paste of the following ingredients with water: grated coconut, red chillies, coriander seeds, ginger, garlic, peppercorns, cumin seeds, and turmeric powder.
  3. Place the masala paste with 2 tablespoons of oil in a wide open pan and boil for 10 minutes on medium heat, stirring frequently. Add the sliced onion.
  4. Add the required amount of water and bring it to a boil. Add the fish steaks and simmer till cooked.
  5. Add the slit green chillies, tamarind pulp, kokum, and salt.
  6. Cook gently for a few more minutes till done.
