As the exposition of the relics of Saint Francis Xavier begins on November 21, a young and talented singer Anle Barbosa, has released a new Konkani song dedicated to the event.

Her composition ‘Goemchem Saibachem Exposition 2024’ captures the essence and significance of the exposition, celebrating the cultural and spiritual importance of Saint Francis Xavier’s relics.

Previously performed by her in the tiatr ‘Khol Khol Baim’ at the 12th Children Tiatr Competition, where the song received tremendous response from tiatr enthusiasts, the song has also drawn thousands of viewers on social media.

The lyrics of the song have been penned by lyricist and Konkani singer Soccoro de Santa Cruz and the music composition has been crafted by musician Norman Cardozo, adding his signature touch to the melodious arrangement.

Expressing her feelings about the song, Barbosa shares that it had been her dream to sing a song about ‘Goencho Saib’, and she is grateful that her dream had finally come true.

“After receiving such an overwhelming response from Konkani music enthusiasts and viewers, I feel like my dream has truly been fulfilled. The love and affection shown by the audience is truly amazing,” she says.

A Class 10 student at Perpetual Soccour High School, Navelim, Barbosa’s music journey began with her active participation in various school and state- level programmes.

“Sister Liberata Fernandes, the headmistress of Perpetual Succour Convent High School, and Sir George Gonsalves, besides several others from the teaching fraternity, encouraged me to pursue my talent in singing and music. Their support was a significant boost for me, especially after participating in choirs at Padre Pio Chapel, Moddi Navelim,” she says.

Barbosa debuted in tiatr with ‘Zhadda Tengxer’ at a children’s tiatr competition, where she sang a duet and clinched the first prize.

“Getting the opportunity to sing in ‘Zhadda Tengxer’ and later in ‘Khol Khol Baim’ was a real test of my talent, and I succeeded in winning not only the prize but also the hearts of many,” she says. “Afterwards, singing a duet with famed Konkani singer Jose Mascarenhas in the ‘Hunvar’ tiatr at the Kala Academy’s B group tiatr competition and winning the first prize made me more serious about nurturing my talent.” Besides this, she has also performed in several Konkani musical shows across Goa alongside top artistes.

“I have extended invitations, especially to tiatrists and Konkani singers, to compose and perform songs on the exposition to raise greater awareness. Anle deserves a big round of applause for her beautiful rendition. We appreciate everyone involved in creating this song. I feel the song will help create more awareness among the faithful across the world.”
