Rotary Rain Run on July 29

It’s time to get out those running shoes and get prepping, as the Rotary Club of Porvorim is back with the Rotary Rain Run (RRR) 2018. In its fourth edition, the charity run will be held on July 29 from the Bambolim SAG stadium to Miramar via the Goa University road. The run will be held in three categories 5 kilometers, 10 kilometers and 21 kilometers (half marathon) and will be held in support of early detection and cure of cervical and breast cancer among women. The 10kilometre and 21kilometre runs will be timed events and school children up to class 10 can register for the 5 kilometers run for free.

“The Rotary Rain Run has grown over the years and we now get participation from people all over India like Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolhapur etc. And the running culture is now growing in Goa. In fact, Goa now has around 500 regular runners,” says Avinash Parmar, co-chairman of the club along with Guirish Sawant.

To further popularise the trend towards running in the state and in the hopes of making the event still bigger, the Rotary Club of Porvorim has teamed up with singer-songwriter Varun Carvalho and Irina Blansch for a special anthem titled ‘Let’s Go’. The song which was previewed at the installation ceremony function of the club’s committee for the year 2018-19, will be launched on social media platforms and local TV channels by this coming weekend.

“People should take up running to stay in good health and be fit. It is one of the best exercises,” states Parmar, while also sending out a few words of advice for running enthusiasts. “It is important to stay hydrated and take it easy. You are not running at this event to win. It is not about competing but completing it. While we do have awards, the run is more about supporting the cause of women health.”
