With a little planning, you can experience both North and South Goa in just three days without spending a fortune. To help get you started, here is a budget-friendly itinerary:

How to Travel

The easiest way to explore the state is by renting a scooter. They usually cost around Rs 300 to 500 per day depending on the season and location. This will help save time in case public transport isn’t easily available where you are.

The cheapest option is buses but it can be time-consuming with limited routes. For shorter distances, you can use scooter taxis, but they can be a bit pricey, so use only when needed.

 

How to decide where to stay

To save money, stay in hostels, guesthouses, or affordable homestays. Areas like Calangute, Candolim, Anjuna, Arpora, Vagator, are good places to find stay options like this. South Goa offers budget cottages and homestays near the beach. Great locations in the South are Benaulim, Palolem, and Agonda. The cost will range approximately between Rs 500 to Rs 2000, depending on the stay option and location.

 

Day 1

Morning: Get a head start and soak in Goa’s beautiful views right at the beginning of your vacation. Visit the Portuguese-era Fort Aguada and then head to nearby beaches like Candolim and Sinquerim.

Afternoon: What better way to refuel your energy with authentic local food? Affordable yet delicious options are fish thali, chicken cafreal, prawn curry with rice, or other vegetarian Goan dishes. It’s better to walk around and go to small local restaurants which usually offer better value than beachfront restaurants.

Evening: Later, let your eyes feast on the sunset at Anjuna Beach and shop at the Anjuna Flea Market (depending on the day). Continue exploring Vagator and Chapora if you still haven’t gotten enough of Goa.

Day 2

Leave North Goa early and head towards South Goa. The travelling time is around 1.5-2.5 hours, depending on traffic.

Morning: Begin your day at Palolem beach. The calm waters and beautiful coastline will kickstart your peaceful morning. You can even visit Patnem and Colomb beaches which are nearby.

Afternoon: Let’s take a break from beaches. There is much more that Goa has to offer. Drive through the countryside and enjoy Goa beyond the beaches. You can add stops like Cabo de Rama Fort for sea views, explore local cafes, and go for walks on village roads.

Evening: End your day at Agonda Beach. It is calmer than North Goa and perfect for watching the sunset. Stay overnight in South Goa if possible.

Day 3

Morning: Head to Old Goa to get a glimpse into Goa’s past. Some iconic spots are the Basilica of Bom Jesus, Se Cathedral, and the Archaeological Museum’

Afternoon: Explore Fontainhas, Goa’s colourful Latin Quarters. Narrow streets, cafes, shopping places, and heritage buildings draw people from different areas. Just be sure not to disturb the residents there.
