Konkani Cinema Turns 68

Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) and Tiatr Academy Goa (TAG) in collaboration with Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) celebrated Konkani Cinema Day on April 24 at ESG, Panaji. On this occasion, a tribute was paid to the Late Jerry Braganza, who produced the 1st Konkani film on this day, 68 years back.

Speaking on this occasion President of Dalgado Konknni Akademi, Tomazhino Cardozo reflected back on the 1st Konkani film ‘Mogacho Anvddo’ –produced and released on April 24, 1950, by Jerry Braganza (Father of Konkani Cinema) which was released at Dasharata Cinema, Mapusa. Tomazhino also spoke on how the book was written by Andrew Viegas titled – ’50 Years of Konkani Cinema’ influenced the importance of this day, which is now being celebrated annually since 2008.

Further, Vice –Chairman of Entertainment Society of Goa, Rajendra Talak, highlighted the hard work that goes into while making a film, where at times the producer of the film faces financial crunch and other negative factors that halt the development of the film. Talak also urged the artists from Goa to get them enrolled in the ESG’s directory, so that their talent can be put to use whenever production houses from other state come to Goa for their assignments.

Chief Guest on this occasion, Sirack Dias, who acted in the original Konkani film ‘Nirmonn’(1966) lauded the efforts of all three organisations for celebrating this day and also urged the Government to lend some financial help to the up-coming filmmakers.

To mark this day, ‘Nirmonn’ (2015) was screened to the public and, few artists from the film were felicitated;
