Government honors artistes with ‘Goa State Cultural Award’

The Directorate of Art and Culture honored 12 eminent personalities in the field of Art and Culture on Monday by conferring the ‘Goa State Cultural Award’ for their contribution and achievements in their respective field of art like music, drama,/tiatr, folk art, bhajan, kirtan, craft, literature , and painting.

The government also honored Antruz Lalitak, Bandora, Ponda, by conferring it with ‘Best cultural institution award’ for the year 2016-17. The best library award was presented to St Xavier’s College, Mapusa and the best librarian award was shared by Sadanand Shirgaonkar and Mohandas Naik.

The recipients were presented awards by Art and culture minister Govind Gaude, Sachin Khedekar (Renowned film actor and director), and Padmashri Prasad Sawkar.

Khedekar said that it was a big honor for him to felicitate the artistes in their home state, who are much older to him not only in age but also in experience. “These artistes have taken Goa to new heights in the field of art and culture. Khedekar also said that international festivals like IFFI have added more prestige to the state of Goa.

The Art and culture minister Govind Gaude lauded the efforts of the recipients of the Goa state cultural awards and urged them to pass on their art forms to the new generation.
