Folk music workshop

Bengal Goa Musical Ensemble is a collaboration between Goa and Bengal musicians. They conducted a workshop at Kala Academy as part of Sur Jahan Festival. One of the instruments played was a ghumat – Goa’s traditional percussion instrument. Divya Naik sang different songs. The first one was a dhalo song. Females dance to this song on a moonlit night.  Another song was Dekhni – a popular Goan song.

Following that, the Bengal musicians performed Baul, which is a philosophy and type of music. There are about 2,500 practicing Bauls. It believes that everything is connected to the human body. They used a Dotara and other percussion instruments in the workshop.
