GTDC’s 3rd Sunday Monsoon Trek for the season is all set to take off to Hukyachi Khadi on 7th July 2019. This small seasonal cascade is located near Kumthad village, just 10 kms off Valpoi in Sattari taluka of Goa. On arrival at Sanvorde, trekkers will have to walk for approximately 4.5 kms through rubber plantations, semi-forested areas, running rivulets, enjoy a fun-filled river crossing experience and reach Hukyachi Khadi. The locale gives one an opportunity to chill out, explore the forests or simply enjoy the cascade. The return journey is from another route equally enriching and rejuvenating. Transport arrangements have been made from Mapusa at 7.30 a.m. & from Margao at 7.15 a.m. and from Panjim at 8.30 a.m. Pick up arrangements from Old Goa, Banastari and Sakhali will also be available. Lunch will be provided. Interested trekkers are requested to carry along an extra pair of clothes, rainwear, trekking shoes, drinking water, snacks and binoculars. Smoking and consumption of alcohol are prohibited. The charge per head is Rs. 800 which is inclusive of lunch, transport and guiding. Jaya Jaitly, founder of Dastkari Haat Samiti, will speak at the Museum of Goa from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Sunday, 7th July 2019. Jaitly will talk about the handicrafts industry in India, using her decades of experience working with craft makers and associations. Jaitly, former president of the Samata Party, has been involved in promoting India’s crafts and textiles industries for over 40 years. She helped create Dilli Haat, one of the most prominent handicrafts markets in India. At MOG, she will talk about the future of handicrafts in India and Goa, how the crafts have evolved over time, and what the industry must do to remain relevant in the future. She has written books on craft traditions of India and created extensive documentation of the arts, crafts and textiles through artistic maps of Indian states, theCrafts Atlas of India.
