“I only work with waste,” says Sharmila, the owner of ‘Kitsch Bits’. She works different waste materials like galvanized iron pipes, empty liquor bottles, used PVC pipes, and waste wood, which is then transformed into lamps, wooden/ concrete keyholders, fridge magnets, birds baths, garden décor, coasters, tissue holders, and more. The price range of the products is between Rs.150 and Rs.4500.
Sharmila was always interested in carpentry. She started making little gifts for friends and family. The good response she received encouraged her to start ‘Kitsch Bits’- a business that transforms waste into beautiful handmade home décor and gift items. She incorporates grunge styles, floral styles, etc, into her works. The materials Sharmila uses are easy to clean – a damp cloth is enough. She herself does the artwork, drilling, wood cutting, sanding, writing, electrical work, and everything else.
A person can get her items at her cosy ‘Kitsch Bits’ home studio in Porvorim, or place orders through telephone, the Kitsch Bits website, or social media pages. Sharmila also sells her products at flea markets and pop-ups. The best-sellers are her lamps and fridge magnets.
