Vigilance against Drugs

The NSS unit of SV’s Sridora Caculo College of Commerce and Management Studies, Mapusa, recently held a lecture on drug awareness for its volunteers.

Umesh Gaonkar, Superintendent of Police, Anti-Narcotics Cell of Goa Police, who was the chief guest briefed the audience on the origin, spread and the extent of the menace of drug in the state of Goa. He said that Goa was the end destination for drugs produced in other parts of the country. Stating that Goa’s drug problem began with the arrival of foreign tourists in the state a few decades ago, he went on to add that foreigners continue to be major carriers and consumers even now. He explained to the audience how to spot signs of drug use and urged the student volunteers to be vigilant about the menace.
