Mandira Faldesai awarded IGS gold medal for topping ME exam

Mandira Mahablu Faldesai, a civil engineering student of Goa Engineering College, has been awarded Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) Gold Medal for topping ME foundation engineering examination, conducted by the Goa University.

Mandira was handed over a certificate and the gold medal at the hands of Dr Luiz de Mello (partner and technical director, Vector Projects, Brazil) and Prof G L Shivkumar Babu (Indian Institute of Science, Bangaluru), who is also the president of Indian Geotechnical Society at the annual flagship event – 2nd Victor de Mello Goa Lecture and Symposium on Women in Geotechnics, organised by Goa Engineering College (GEC) in association with IGS Goa Chapter, recently.

Mandira passed out with distinction, and did a dissertation on ‘Monitoring Control and Mapping of Landslides in Goa.’She worked on live problems of slope stability issues in Goa.

While appreciating the positive policies implemented by the department of civil engineering, Mandira has credited her success to the sincere efforts taken by teachers and her guide Dr Purnanand P Savoikar.
