Upcoming Konkani Film– Questao de Confusao and Gang of Youngsters (G.O.Y) will be organizing a Youth festival titled– Yuvagiri 2018 on August 3 from 9:30 am onwards at Kala Academy, Panaji. The festival is being organized in association with the Directorate of Art and Culture, Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and GSIDC. The motive behind organizing this festival is to create awareness about the Konkani film industry among the new generation.
While briefing the media, EDC chairman, Siddharth Kuncalienker said that it’s a great opportunity to be associated with this festival that has youth as its epicenter and with EDC coming out with projects such as Smart City and Imagine Panaji that is very much youth-oriented which will tend to help the youth on the path of entrepreneurship. Kuncalienker also added that Government is also helping the youth through the introduction of various Government schemes that will help them to grow through the channel of ‘Start-Up’.
The festival will feature total 17 groups (12 colleges/higher secondary’s and 5 cultural groups) and will comprise of 12 competitions such as – movie making, intro, group dance, singing, street play, quiz, debate, face painting, selfie contest, monologue, mascot and poster making. The winners of the festival will receive a rolling trophy and Rs. 20,000; the runner-ups will be awarded Rs. 15,000 and third place institution/group will be awarded Rs. 10,000. Besides this, the winners of each individual competition will receive Rs.500 and runner-ups will receive Rs. 300.

Festive celebrations to mark ‘Decennary’ of Semana da Cultura Indo –Portuguesa
Semana da Cultura Indo –Portuguesa (Goa) will complete a decade with the tenth edition of the event that will begin on Saturday, September 29. To mark the celebrations of the 10th edition the executive committee has lined up a celebration of Indian and Portuguese culture that ranges from cinema, and music to cuisine, art and more. The inaugural event will be held at Hotel Mandovi with a discussion on ‘Portuguese influence on Goan culture’ that will be moderated by author Alexandre Barbosa. Minister of IT, Rohan Khaunte will be the chief guest and the panelist for the discussion will include historians Prajal Sakhardande and Maria Lourdes Bravo de Costa Rodrigues. ‘Questao De Cofusao’ to go international
The Konkani film ‘Questao De Cofusao’ is all set to release in auditoriums all over Goa from September 28 onwards. After its release in Goa, the film will also be screened internationally in the United Kingdom in Swindon, Brent, Southall, and Hounslow in the month of November. The movie is based on communal harmony which revolves around two families, who share a door–to–door neighbour relationship but also have a long ancestor rivalry with each other. Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, producer of the film, Suchita Narvekar said: “Due to the lack of theaters in the state especially commercial ones, we have decided to release the movie in the auditoriums and halls located in villages. The whole idea behind releasing the movie in villages and local areas is to create awareness about Konkani films. Mega Art Show at Kala Academy
A total of 80 artists have put up 185 artworks at the recently inaugurated ‘All India Artist Mega Art Show’. The exhibition was inaugurated by Goan actor, Kevin D’mello. The exhibition features artworks and photographs by artists from various districts in Gujarat. Artists like Anita Kumari, Anjana Padiya, Darshana Tank, Devangi Pandya, Chitan Sompura, Raguvirsinh Gohil and others have put up their work at the exhibition. Cantaram Competition on Oct 13-14
With a view of promoting talent in singing, preserving and reviewing the tradition of Tiatr songs and also to give incentive to new compositions in the line of Goan rich heritage of Tiatr performances, the Kala Academy Goa will be organising the 16th edition of ‘Cantaram Competition’ which will be held on October 13 and 14 in the Black Box of Kala Academy. The competition is organised with the performances of Decent and Comedy Cantaram under one category only. There shall be three prizes in each subcategory: solo male (junior), solo male (senior) and solo female (junior), solo female (senior), duet, due, trio, quartet (group) and choral cantar singing. Male and female participating in solo singing below and upto the age of 16 years shall be considered for solo(junior) whereas participants above 16 years of age shall have to compulsorily participate in solo (Senior) in both male and female category as the case may be. Celebrating LGBTQ through art
Museum of Goa (MOG) Foundation in collaboration with the Humsafar trust and Goa livelihoods forum will be organising an exhibition titled ‘Freedom is in the Air’-an initiative to celebrate the LGBTQ community through art, creative engagement and discourse. This exhibition will be held at MOG, Pilerne from 10th November to 30th November 2018. The aim behind this initiative is to create a platform wherein the LGBTQ community gathers and celebrate whilst also providing a creative space for them and the others to engage, integrate debate and chart the way forward. As part of the event, there will be an art installation, exhibition, and seminar. The art installation will be by artist, director – MOG Foundation Subodh Kerkar. The installation will be a 100 meters long net, decorated with rainbow coloured strips that will float in the wind. The tenth edition of the Semana da Cultura Indo Portuguesa (Goa) was inaugurated on September 29 with Minister of Revenue and IT, Rohan Khaunte, Minister for Environment of Portugal, Joao Pedro De Matos Fernandes, Consul General of Portugal in Goa Antônio Chrystello Tavares and executive committee members of the Semana da Cultura in attendance. Explore the world through Nuno Lobito’s lens
Fundação Oriente, Panaji, is currently holding a photography exhibition called ‘Ties| More than Travelling’. The photographer behind these creative works is Nuno Lobito. He has travelled to approximately 204 countries and loves taking pictures of what he sees on his journeys. He prefers shooting people over other objects as they give him feelings. Lobito likes the fact that his photos give others a glimpse of different cultures and how people around the world live their daily lives. The exhibition contains 16 photos from Lobito’s travels. The photos capture various emotions and activities of people around the world. The pictures have titles like ‘Tenderness’, ‘Throwing a net’, ‘Intimacy between a child and his pet’, ‘Uneasiness’, and ‘Family meeting’. Different places are featured in them. These include Bahrain, Somalia, Portugal, Brazil, Chile, Iran, Madagascar, and more. (The exhibition will be open for public viewing till October 27, 2018)
Talent Search Competitions for students
The Directorate of Art & Culture organises Cultural Talent Search Competitions for students in Goa annually, to promote and preserve art and culture and to give a platform to the youth of Goa. The Taluka Level Talent Search competition will be conducted in the first and second week of October 2018. For South Goa, the competition has been arranged from October 4 to 6, 2018. For North Goa the competition will be held from October 8 to 10, 2018 at Sanskruti Bhavan, Patto. The competition is open to school students from class 5 to 10. The first three prize winners in each category will then compete at state level and the winner of state level will be awarded with scholarships. Students from Dahrbandoda, Canacona, Quepem, Salcete, Marmugao and Sanguem taluka, will have to be present at the Loyola High school Margao and Mahila Nutan High School Margao at 2.30 p.m. on October 4 for the poetry writing, drawing, essay, Devnagri and English Handwriting competitions. Registrations for 49th edition of IFFI gets underway
The delegate registrations for the 49th edition of IFFI will commence on October 8 from 7.00 p.m. onwards for all cine enthusiasts and professionals on payment of Rs. 1000, whereas the students will be registered free. The applications of the delegates who are registered with IFFI for the last 2 years will be approved within 24 hours and new applications will be approved within 48hours. Global cardboard challenge comes to Goa for the first time
The Global cardboard challenge was brought to the beautiful state of Goa for the first time on 6th September 2018 by The Other School. It was held at the Central Library in Panaji. This challenge is six years old and takes place in approximately 80 countries. The young participants of Goa let their imaginations run wild and created anything they wanted to out of cardboard and other recyclables. Chaitali Morajkar, a renowned artist, was the judge for the event. The Other School representative said, “It teaches the kids that they can create their own entertainment.” Additionally, they learn life skills like teamwork, resourcefulness, and perseverance. The creativity of the children manifested in forms like a cardboard Hop on Hop off bus, a dollhouse, and many other innovative items.
Toll free number launched for postal complaints, suggestions
The department of posts, on Tuesday, launched a toll-free number which can be used to convey any suggestions and complaints regarding services. The department launched the toll-free number-18003136633 as part of National Postal Week that is observed from October 9-15. Pramod Sawant, Speaker of Legislative Assembly, launched the postal celebrations. He said that the postal sector is seeing changes day by day. “Most of the schemes that are launched by the government are not fully accessible to all the public, so in order to promote schemes such as Atal Pension Yojana and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana it is not only the duty of the postal department but also all the government departments that are directly related to the public to spread awareness,” he said. Only about 250 residents of the state have availed of the Atal Pension Yojana scheme launched by the central government in 2015, revealed officials from the postal department. Goa gets it’s first pictorial cancellation
The department of posts, on the occasion of National Philately Day, launched the first pictorial cancellation of Goa which will feature the sculpture of Saint Meerabai, which is found in the village of Loutolim. The department launched this pictorial cancellation as part of National Postal Week that is being observed from October 9-15. The sculpture of Saint Meerabai, which can be seen in the village of Loutolim, is the work of sculpturist, Mahendra Alvares. The sculpture has entered six record books, including Limca book of records for being the fastest and longest laterite sculpture done single-handedly. This pictorial cancellation will be used at the Loutolim post office, to cancel the letters posted in a specified letterbox. Dr N Vinodkumar, postmaster general, Goa region, said that: “stamps maybe a piece of paper for a common man, but for a philatelist it is a piece of art, cause these stamps are studded with miniature paintings based on various themes.” Vinodkumar also urged the younger generation to take up philately and open ‘Philatelic Deposit Account’, which will not only add a dimension to one’s hobby but also will enhance them with more knowledge. Artworks of differently-abled students will be put on display at Panaji
A painting exhibition called ‘Kala Chaitanya’ will be organised by the Lokvishwas Pratishthan NGO in collaboration with Institute Menezes Braganza and Giants Group of Panaji. It will be held at Institute Menezes Braganza from 19th to 21st October 2018 (10 am to 6:30 pm). The paintings are done by differently-abled students who are educated in schools run by the Lokvishwas Pratishthan NGO. The NGO trains their students in different fields like drama, dance, art, etc. The exhibition will display over 90 paintings by these talented young artists.
