‘Shamburaje’ aims to get in Asia Book of Records

Art and Culture Department, Government of Goa and West Zone Cultural Center, Udaipur in collaboration with Bhagwati High School, Pernem will stage a mahanatya titled – ‘Shamburaje’ which is based on the life of the Maratha ruler– Sambhaji Maharaj; written by Neelangi Shinde and Directed by Jayandranath Haldankar. The mahanatya comprises a total number of 520 artists and 100 supporting staff members.

The mahanatya will be staged at two venues; at Goa Engineering College on April 25, 26 and 27 from 7:00 p.m. onwards and at Copel Bhat, Quepem on May 4, 5 and 6 from 7:00 p.m. onwards. On April 25, Union Minister of State and Department of Art and Culture, Government of India, Mahesh Sharma will be the chief guest whereas on May 4 Governor of Goa, Mridula Sinha will preside as the chief guest.

While briefing the media, Art and Culture Minister, Govind Gaude said that, since this drama comprises of 520 artistes it is recommended to Asia Book of Records, whose officials will be in the state to monitor this performance. Gaude also said that, the main aim of this drama is to put up a spotlight on the performance of young artistes and inspire other children to take up acting and also learn the values of Sambhaji Maharaj. Further Gaude added that, they have made arrangements for a 10,000 capacity seating’s which will include around 3,000 students from various schools on each day for which willingness letters have been sent to the schools so that the students can be a part of it and likewise the previous show in Pernem which garnered a response of approximately 13,000, urged the people to come and witness this mahanatya.
