Gaansaraswati Kishoritai Amonkar Sangeet Mahotsav to be held on April 28

Kala Academy, Panaji will be hosting the 1st edition of Gaansaraswati Kishoritai Amonkar Sangeet Mahotsav on April 28 and 29 at Dinanath Mangeshkar Kala Mandir, Kala Academy. The Sangeet Mahotsav is organised to commemorate the death anniversary of legendary singer and daughter of Goa Late Kishoritai Amonkar, who passed away in April 2017.

While briefing the media, Minister for Art and Culture, Govind Gaude urged all the music lovers especially the young crop to be a part of this festival so that they can witness the rare ‘Raggas’ which were created by Kishoritai herself, which will be performed by her disciples.

There will be a curtain raiser event on April 28 at 10 a.m. titled – ‘Rarely Heard Kishori Amonkar’. The programme will feature with a commentary by Arun Dravid on rare recordings of Kishoritai from 1962-85.There will be also a photographic exhibition on Kishoritai’s rare photographs conceptualized by her son Bhibas Amonkar.

The festival will be inaugurated by Minister for Art and Culture, Govind Gaude on April 28 at 5.00 p.m. along with the family members of Kishoritai. Before the inaugural function a documentary on Kishoritai produced by Mumbai Doordarshan will be screened at 4:30 p.m. Meena Waikar, who had been a disciple of Kishoritai and a close companion for almost 30 years, will be felicitated on the occasion.
