Combating Fake News has become a challenge with the popularity in the use of social media platforms. According to IndiaSpend analysis of new reports across India, between Jan 1, 2017, and July 5, 2018, 33 persons have been killed and at least 99 injured in 69 reported cases due to fake news. Lynching as a result of fake news has taken place in several states like Maharashtra, Assam, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Tripura, West Bengal, Telangana, etc.
