3 Indian films to vie for Golden Peacock award

The 49th edition of IFFI will open with the world premiere of ‘The Aspern Papers’ directed by Julien Landais, while the world premiere of the German film, ‘Sealed Lips’ will draw curtains over the festival.

Altogether 15 international films including 3 Indian films – ‘Bhayanakam’ (Malayalam), ‘To Let’ (Tamil), and ‘Ee MaYove’ (Malayalam) – will vie for the Golden Peacock award under the International Competition section of IFFI 2018.

The festival director, Chaitanya Prasad said that the opening, as well as the closing ceremony of the IFFI 2018, will be entertaining and thematic. “Although we are in the process of finalising guests of honour for these ceremonies, actor Akshay Kumar will be attending the opening ceremony,” he informed, adding that Akshay Kumar will also attend the opening of the public screenings of films on the theme of sports, at the Joggers Park, at Altinho, starting from November 21 to 27, from 7 p.m onwards regularly.

ESG vice-chairman Rajendra Talak said that a Goan short film, ‘Seetee’ directed by Gopinath Chandelkar has been selected to screen during the film festival under the Goan Section. The Serendipity Art Festival in association with the ESG will present ‘Football – A Beautiful Life’, a 6-day film programme from November 22 to 27, at Children’s Park, in the city, that will showcase a range of exceptional feature films and documentaries from around the world, in which human and social stories would be narrated through football. “The Goa College of Art will also hold exhibition installs set up along the Campal promenade,” he added.

The ESG vice-chairman further stated that People’s Film Village to be set up at the Sports Authority of Goa football ground, from November 21 to 27, will include movie screenings, activities for children, musical programmes and celebrity interviews, which would be open for all.

A joint press conference held by the directorate of film festivals (DFF) and the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) on Friday informed that till now altogether 7,291 individuals have registered as delegates for the IFFI 2018, and 3,918 of them have paid the registration fees, besides 945 students.

It was further informed that the delegate card distribution would begin from November 18, from 10 a.m to 10 p.m, outside Kala Academy.
